Apple renews complete all iPods

1st
Sep. × ’10

Apple just introduced in the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco a total renovation of the range iPod, iTunes news also reaches 10 and a version of Apple TV completely renovated. In the iPod range many of the rumors had been confirmed and in some cases Apple has still managed to be drawn as a sleeve. The main new features you have come at the iPod Nano, saying goodbye to the historic and representative level clickwheel and iPod Touch getting Retinal Display and two cameras, boosting FaceTime. Then you have all the details:

iPod Shuffle

Although one of the features I liked the last model of the iPod Shuffle is precisely that it had no buttons, Apple seems Habes realized that people still need some way to have buttons on their iPods and renewal goes through the best mix all models presented so far. The end result is much like the second generation but is still smaller and more compact, more square is also very similar to the new design of the new iPod Nano that I happened to be detailed later. I will arrive in five different colors.

iPod Nano

For the first time releases the historic clickwheel, acquires a square, not rectangular as all previous versions and is undoubtedly the finest of all. Is 46% smaller and 42% lighter, it is basically the result of converting the display of a multi-touch iPod Nano similar to the iPod Touch. The operation was seen as the keynote is actually fluid and not a big problem to use fingers with a screen that is still being considerably smaller mutitouch.

The appearance is very similar to IOS but small, the screen orientation can be changed easily in the same way that when we rotate a picture, take advantage of a similar idea in the IPAD, there is no right way to catch any better side, any orientation, just rotate the screen to fit where you are watching. Come in the same colors as the old iPod Nano and will cost $ 149 the 8GB and $ 170 the 16GB.

iPod Touch

Steve Jobs started talking about the new iPod Touch noting that the mobile platform is more popular game in the world with a 50% market share over the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP all together, just amazing. The new model is even thinner, but really thin. Like all rumors indicated incorporates the new Retina Display, A4 processor, the gyroscope, and a front camera located in the center to speak via FaceTime, also incorporates a rear on the left that records HD video.

As for the battery will only have detailed 40 hours of battery playing music, very similar to what was now, so I do not think in that sense is harmed. The iPod Touch therefore follows the same philosophy that first of all, follow the tail of the iPhone but no phone, we have the same benefits, the same features except as stated in the phone, GPS and mobile data connection via 3G.

The price range goes from $ 229 for the 8GB model, $ 299 for the 32GB model and $ 399 for the 64GB model. If I’m right are slightly higher than the previous model, though I suppose it will also continue selling older models at lower prices, a good choice no doubt but in my opinion lack the momentum of Retinal Display, may seem trivial But once you get used to everything else starts to look like technology several years ago.

Guy Walks Across America: Stop Motion and Time Lapse

1st
Sep. × ’10

Surfing the web I found an interesting video called Guy Walks Across America (Man Walks Across America), which sees a man walking from the city of New York to San Francisco. Requires combined Stop Motion with Time Lapse to achieve the final result. It was produced by Conscious Minds and directed by Sam Griffith. It was shot with a camera Canon 5D Mark II and the 2770 final images were required to complete. The creators say that perhaps the most difficult was to take the idea they had and make it a reality. The trip took 14 days in total and the route map we can see each of the places they passed.

Video: Guy Walks Across America [1:54 mins]

Here we have a behind the scenes of the creation of the video:

Video: Walk Across America – Behind the Scenes [3:48 mins]

As you can see the result is quite amazing and certainly required a lot of dedication by the team involved. The team he had was not the best and at some point touched them devise ways to take the project forward, which shows that good ideas combined with the dedication and perseverance are vital when conducted and completed a project.

Gmail launches “Priority Inbox” to separate important mails

31st
Aug. × ’10

Not you, but I get lots (incredibly many) emails a day, so I use filters, labels and the option of “several received” or multiple inboxes in Gmail, so my mail is filled with boxes of colors. Nevertheless, some important things sometimes happen to me from the tangle.

Now, Gmail has implemented a new feature, called “priority.” It’s in beta and can be turned right up in your Gmail (marked in red so it is more or less easy to see.)

What is the idea? Basically, the priority Inbox works as spam filter, but in reverse. Gmail will learn as keywords, people who send lots of emails and your habits, what e-mails are important to you. These emails appear at the top of the inbox, so you see them first.

The priority algorithm is also adaptive, ie, as post marks as important or unimportant, Gmail will learn. As with spam, you can do some post filters to automatically move to the major sector (eg those coming from your boss).

Inbox Under the priority, then the emails are listed you have marked with a star. Usually marked with a star is something important that you left for later, so it’s a good idea to include in the priority list, so do not forget to deal with these issues in time. Under the e-mails with star show “everything else”, ie general mail.

According to Google, in internal testing of the new feature is found that people saved 16% of time reading e-mails with this tool. It’s interesting how Google has taken a concrete step to solve a common problem in the e-mail. It remains to be seen how effective or useful will be the new tool, but it seems like a great idea.

Japanese researchers develop technology for 3D TV “Touch”

26th
Aug. × ’10

A team of Japanese researchers said on Thursday it had developed the first 3D television system that allows users to touch, pinch or put images floating in front of them.

“It’s the first time images that can be felt in the air,” said Norio Nakamura, senior scientist of the research team at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology .

“You can have the sense of touch like putting a rubber ball or stretch a sticky rice cake” when you manipulate the images, told a news agency by telephone.

Technology changes the shape of three-dimensional images in response to “touch” with the help of cameras that monitor how they move their fingers, said Nakamura.

It is not known when the technology will be of practical use, but its creators are being used to simulate surgery and video game software that allows players to experience the sensation of holding weapons or sports equipment.

You could even use scanned images to complement the existing realities, “said Nakamura.

Intel develops technology capable of readading your thoughts

26th
Aug. × ’10

Intel scientists are working on technology that is able to decode words while you’re thinking. Unlike other technologies to control equipment with the brain , which require you imagine making a movement, which suggests Intel is literally read minds.

To achieve this, scientists working on the project are making maps of brain activity, to create a pattern and then by comparison, a software would know which word is the one you’re thinking at that moment, of course, with sufficient speed to keep pace with our thoughts.

The results so far have shown that the technology is capable of matching results based on brain patterns, and searching for clues that could only suggest what is the word. As Dean Pomerleau, head of research:

The computer uses a “20 questions” to decipher the word you’re thinking. For example a word like a sword or something you dig, produces activity in the motor cortex, known as the area that controls movement.

A word related to food such as apple, produces activity in the brain associated with hunger, so the computer can find properties of the word thought and recognize quickly.

We are mapping the brain activity of a common brain while thinking, and could dictate letters or searching just thinking.

The mapping is difficult and takes time, and equipment used CT and MRI, but hope to develop a headset type device capable of doing this work.

It seems that the thoughts are not as impenetrable as we expected them to be. If such technology does have full development, the uses would be unimaginable – as well as privacy issues also occur. If a court could put my hands on it, justice would become perfect, but if you use against your will or other purposes How do you feel?

AirDropper: asks you to leave your Dropbox files

26th
Aug. × ’10

Dropbox is one of the most useful web tools I used in my life. Apple’s all I could never do well with your iDisk , it’s free, it is functional, works not only on my laptop, also on my iPhone and my Nexus One. Save backups of absolutely all files that are in my folder and even versions each of the changes made in the past.

But not every system is perfect, but Dropbox is a public folder, you can not let you file there unless you also have an account. AirDropper solve the shortfall.

It works by connecting to your Dropbox account and creating a new folder (where you will receive files). If you need to receive a file, put in AirDropper email from the person who has to send it to us, who would get an email with a link to a form where you can upload via web, file and this will be delivered directly to our Dropbox .

As simple as a less functional for e-mail that it was never “optimized” for sending and receiving files, this is much better. The service is free.

Gmail now allows free phone call!

25th
Aug. × ’10

Google Voice service integrated into Gmail, allowing you to call landlines and other users using your email account. It is similar to integrated chat system that already exists, but merged with something like Skype. Unfortunately for our side of the world, the system is operating only in the United States and Canada for now.

Google introduced the service in San Francisco this morning, which allow you to call landlines for a fee (from U.S. $ 0.02 per minute and $ 0.19 per minute for international calls) and the credits will be sold through Google Checkout. Local calls, meanwhile, will be completely free (at least in the U.S. and Canada).

There is a general table where they can see the fees for any country in the world

The system also will work on smart-phones, and if someone calls Google Voice your PC via Android sounds like a normal call.

No doubt this is a pitch that will test competition in the field of VoIP – to be seen how he reacts if Skype and Google plans to launch the system on other countries.

A machine that converts plastic into oil

24th
Aug. × ’10

Plastic production accounts for about 7% of global oil extraction is one of the most difficult to recycle.

With this in mind, Japanese scientists have created a machine that turns plastic back to oil.

Japan’s new invention uses an electric heater, so it produces no pollution and can process plastic types 2 and 4, covering the polystyrene, polystyrene and Polypropylene, but not type 1, better known as the plastic used in PET bottles.

Blest, the company responsible for this product sells small version for US$ 9,500 in Japan and with this project hope to not only recycle plastic to prevent end as part of pollution but also to demonstrate the value of these two products and not just see them as a waste in this way to create a culture of reuse.

What to do after turning back the plastic oil? We can work to make gasoline, diesel and kerosene. Akinori Ito tells us in the video accompanying this note, 1kg of plastic may be sufficient to make 1 liter of gasoline.

The video is in Japanese with English subtitles but the experience is very graphic so the language should not be a barrier.

“Creating a machine that everyone can use is my dream,” said Ito. Reminds me the dream that another great man had for many years.
